Phase 7 - Final install

With the crossmember modifications complete, it was time to see if our measurements were accurate enough - if they were, the engine should bolt straight in!

CLUNK!  In it goes - no worries at all, everything lined up perfectly.  That sure is a big lump of engine to be manhandling into an engine bay, but by now we're pretty used to it.  :-)  Note the clearance at the front of the engine bay is a little tight - once the radiator is installed, there will be no room for an engine fan.

These pics show the engine mounts bolted to the new crossmember brackets.  Looks like it came that way from the factory, doesn't it?  You can also see the front-dip sump which fits perfectly around the MA61 crossmember.

Amazingly, the Aristo transmission crossmember very nearly bolts up to the Supra floorpan.  All we had to do was extend the bolt holes so they were about 3-4mm closer together, and it bolted right in.  Neat!

Here we test-fitted the huge Aristo radiator.  It's very wide, and only just fits between the chassis rails.  Unfortunately these pics show that it is a little too tall.  We sat it on the castor rod brackets (ie as low as it was going to get) and it was still too high to clear the bonnet.  Scratch that idea - the plan now is to have the original radiator reconditioned with dual cores.

Finished!  The grinning gimp in the last pic is yours truly, understandably pleased that the engine is finally in its new home.  It will still be some time before the car is drivable though - still to be sorted out is the radiator, custom tailshaft, exhaust and inlet tubing.  In other words, it's not going anywhere until I've thrown a bucket of cash at it!  Make no mistake folks, engine conversions are expensive...
